Vintage ethnic necklace is a three strand, gold coins ethnic necklace from Greece.A Greek folk costume, traditional dress necklace, made in the mid eighties.
I found this lovely, ethnic treasure years ago, in my forays into the back streets of the old, antique shops.
This is a very typical supplement for almost all, Greek ethnic costumes of women's dresses.
It was part of the best costumes accessories or wedding dresses.It used to come to a lot of strands, covering the greater part of the woman's chest, usually over a white tunic.
It comprises three strands of brass chain, bedecked with copies of Turkish gold coins, called 'flouria' in Greek, hanging from it.
There are 27 copies of old coins on this, three strand necklace, engraved with the standard, Arabic text of the originals. The chain is of a more modern design and clasps with a simple, 's' shaped clasp.
A coin measures about 2cm (0.78' ) in diameter, the shorter chain measures 60cm (23.62'') in length.It is a very light necklace.This vintage ethnic necklace is in perfect, unworn condition.
