Vintage copper pitcher is a brass copper lidded jug, a small, copper pot with a brass handle and a lid.It's a Greek folk art item, found in a Greek antique shop, a Greek copper antiques specimen of the early 20's.It was used for water and milk, etc.
It has a bell shaped bottom and a narrower top.This vintage canister's top is lidded with a beautiful lid.Its handle starts from the bottom part and reaches the top with the spout.The handle carries the lid as well.The handle is detached from its bottom point of soldering.It stands in the air now.The lid is conical, like a pointy dome.It is decorated with a small brass top knob, so it can be easily opened.
The canister base gets narrower and then opens up again a little to create a skirt like base.On the whole this is a rather exotic pattern for a folk art canister.Now you only see it in Arabic folk art, but it was very commonplace a design in Greek metalsmithing for the home until the sixties.
It's got white spots inside and at the edges.There is a hand beaten design of simple dots design.This is done on the bottom part, the more open bell shape part.
It is in quite good, vintage condition and has probably seen a lot of use.The domed lid does not close properly, like it probably would when it was first made.
These pots and jugs were used until the late sixities in Greece, in all the rural areas as well as in many city parts, mostly used by the poorer people.
This lovely, copper lidded pot measures about 22cm in height x 10cm in diameter at the base (8.66'' x 3.93'').It is not heavy.It can be used for flowers, I wouldn't recommend it being used for drinking.You should first check for any leaks, although it looks like it is alright and leak proof.
