Vintage wine serving set is a sensational set of one ceramic pitcher/carafe with its six matching mugs.It was made in the early sixties in Greece.It is made of earhtenware pottery, a white low fired clay, still very popular with housewares and all sorts of crockery.It is a barrel shaped set, the pitcher and all six wine mugs are shaped like barrels, and are painted in a cinammon brown colour for the pitcher a paler brown shade for the mugs.
The barrel 'hoops' are painted in a darker brown shade. Both the pitcher and the wine mugs are also decorated with beautiful, relief grapes on their front part, wine leaves and vines.The grapes are in a faded berry red on the jug, with less red on the mugs, which also have a smaller bunch of grapes.The jug wine leaves are white and bottle green, on the mugs the leaves are a lime green colour.The pitcher's handle is shaped like a grapevine branch and painted in a darker brown shade and so are the mugs handles as well, where the handsrtokes in the painting can be clearly seen.
This set has been hardly used at all, but due to the sensitive, low fired, eartheware clay it is chipped in many places through time.
The pitcher has only one distinct chip on upper part of the handle as seen in the fourth photo, and no other discernible marks. It has one more very tiny chip at the end of its handle, downwards, near its base. Its rim is slightly uneven at places, but not chipped.
The little mugs all bear chips on their rims, as can be seen in the second and almost all photos.
In some mugs the chips are about 1.50cm long (0.59'').The mugs are also chipped at some other parts as well, like their handles, etc, but it's mostly their rims that have 'suffered'.They can be very well used on one side, if you'd like to use them.
This wine serving set is not fit for microwave, oven or dishwasher.It should be washed and dried carefully by hand with mild diswashing soap ot liquid.
The pitcher measures 21cm in height x 16cm in length x 12cm in width (8.26'' x 6.29'' x 4.72''), the little mugs measure 7cm x 9cm x 5.5cm (2.75'' x 3.54'' x 2.16'').
