Vintage ceramic candleholder is a Greek, vintage pottery piece, a lovely, rustic candlestick of quite an intricate pattern.
it was made in the mid -seventies by Dimitiris Argiroudis and his dad, who had both been 3rd and 4rth generation traditional potters in Thessaloniki, Greece.
This pot starts as a conical vase with a wide, thick handle on the side and then forms a smaller, slender neck and on top of that it opens up to a wide, flat rim, almost like a little saucer.
This creates an inner, fennel like hollow with a smaller, inner rim, just where the candle goes.
This is glazed inside as well as on the outside, so you can use it as a proper vase if you would like.
It has a dominant grey white colour, with splashes of eggplant green-black-purple, over some creamy beige areas.
The handle is in th ewhite grey shade. There is a faint blue line on the top part of the cone of the pot.The stamp of the artis is under the base of the handle. It is 'lca', for Laboratory of Ceramic Applications, as Dimitris called his studio.
As you can see in the fourth photo, this pot got stuck in the kiln shelf and a small part of it got broken between the bottom and the base of the candlestick , due to its very thick glaze. This will not stop the candle stick from functioning perfectly, not will this defect show.
This vintage candleholder has seen very litle use and apart from its original flaw of a small part of its base missing, it is in very good, unused condition.
It measures about 12cm in height and about 10cm in length (3.93'' x 4.72'').It's not a heavy item.
